Den’s Houjicha Powder is made of finely ground whole leaf Houjicha, specially roasted and blended to make a very flavorful powder. Houjicha flavor has been very popular for lattes, ice cream and many other treats in Japan.
Houjicha powder is as fine as matcha, yet it will feel a bit rough to your tongue. Thus, its use as an ingredient in food items is ideal rather than drinking it straight.
Try this powder by replacing Matcha with the same amount to make lattes or any other Matcha food item you like. We specifically recommend it in any cold treat such as iced Houjicha Latte, Tiramisu or ice cream!

When I read about this new product I was curious to try it, especially as being caffeine sensitive in the evening. At the time I ordered it, a free shaker container came with it with a very unique design which works perfectly and is a genius invention. The powder has all the houjicha flavour you expect and as a "syrup " (just water and powder) or sprinkled dry as you would matcha powder, it is really wonderful on coconut or vanilla ice cream. The syrup had almost an espresso feel to it and I was not bothered by the dry powder tongue feel at all...it isn't worth mentioning ( imo).
The package is plentiful and it will last quite a while. I am looking forward to the iced version and several other suggestions made with the directions page. It will be a great flavour in butter cookies.
