| 2013 Den's Tasting Comments |
| Until I tasted Houryoku, Kunpu was the No. 1 Shincha of the year. However I needed to reconsider that position once I sipped Houryoku. From the first sip to the aftertaste, I experienced a very comfortable, mild flavor sitting in my mouth. There is a nutty flavor similar to chestnut and sticky taste like honey that lingered for a while. This aftertaste was unique in the way it covered my tongue and throat. The 2nd cup also impressed me because it was still as powerful as the first cup. Houryoku is made in the style of Fukamushi Senchas in that it is highly steamed. With this type of tea it is important to brew a cloudy cup. It is equally important not to hesitate in consuming this tea. The cloudiness is caused by tea leaf particles in suspension and this is part of the great flavor. If you see a lot of sediment in your cup, you have missed out on some flavor. Also remember when you sip, roll the tea on your tongue and enjoy the spreading aroma and taste. |
